Square Worlds

Last February, I ran a a game jam with some work friends, and made a little 4-person digital board game which I wanted to turn into a single player mobile game. It is now over a year later, but I am happy to have finished: Square Worlds is now available for free on iOS and Android.

Square Worlds is a casual tile-placement game. Each tile scores points in different ways, so you need to think carefully about what you place where to get the best score you can.

The first mode is also available to play online on Itch:

I owe a lot of thanks to Tann whose game Hexcity was inspiration for several elements of Square Worlds.

If you enjoy the game, and want more of the same, there are two additional game modes available on mobile which can be unlocked with a single in-app purchase.

I made all the art and sounds myself, so although the level of polish is minimal, I am pleased with the end result. I made the game with LibGDX, an open-source Java game engine, which made exporting to iOS, Android and Web relatively painless.

Now, how long will it take for someone to beat all of my highscores?

Awesome game, I love all the little secrets. Don't forget to fix the totems bug ;)
